Walking Sleeping Beauty Now in Limited Release

And when they say "limited," they really mean it. Basically, if you're in California, New York, Illinois, or Pennsylvania, you can find a theatre somewhere in your vicinity showing it. Click here to find a showing . The rest of us will have to wait for DVD release, I suppose.

What's that you say? You haven't heard of Waking Sleeping Beauty? Here's a little description of the film to whet your appetite:
By the mid-1980s, the fabled animation studios of Walt Disney had fallen on hard times. The artists were polarized between newcomers hungry to innovate and old timers not yet ready to relinquish control. These conditions produced a series of box-office flops and pessimistic forecasts: maybe the best days of animation were over. Maybe the public didn't care. Only a miracle or a magic spell could produce a happy ending. Waking Sleeping Beauty is no fairy tale. It's the true story of how Disney regained its magic with a staggering output of hits - "Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast ," "Aladdin," "The Lion King," and more - over a 10-year period.

I am so excited to see this documentary! (And I am not generally a documentary-lovin' woman.) I miss the days when the public got to sneak a peek at animators in action at Disney's Hollywood Studios, so it will be fun to have an inside view again of what went into this prolific period in Disney Animation history.
