In 2009, the "What Will You Celebrate?" promotion let you "earn" a free day at Disney just for being born. In 2010, you'll have to work a little harder for that free day, but the rewards are much richer, in my opinion. Beginning January 1, the first one million guests who pre-register and complete a day of volunteer work through the HandsOn Network will receive a one-day admission ticket to Walt Disney World or Disneyland.
"In 2010, we want to recognize and add one more reason for celebration: the contributions people make to their communities every day," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "We want to inspire one million volunteers--people who will invest time and energy to make their own communities and neighborhoods a better place."
Now, I love a good deal more than most people. But a good deal that also encourages volunteerism and community involvement is about as good as it gets. Kudos to Disney for this one!
As mentioned above, the HandsOn Network will be essential in tracking volunteer work and keeping guests accountable for actually doing the work. You can't simply pick any organization to help--it must be approved. However, the organization works with over 70,000 non-profit agencies, so there's a great chance that some of your favorites will be eligible.
